FREE SHIPPING! MSE Calm Defense is a purified and palatable
probiotic for
pets with anxiety issues such as fear of thunder and/or fireworks, strangers in
the house, and being left alone. MSE Calm Defense must be started at a level
below ideal to allow aclimation to this concentrated probiotic. However, if
the pet is already on either MSE Natural Defense or MSE Natural Defense
Soluble, they can be switched back and forth for preventive control of
anxiety or fearfulness.
Anxiety is stress and triggers the stress response ("flight
or fight"). Among other things, that response diverts energy from the
digestive tract and sends it to the muscles for rapid response. This stops
most digestive function, including flow of digesta and nutrient absorption.
Beneficial microbes starve to death and open the animal to infection.
MSE Calm Defense not only dampens the stress response, it
also bolsters the microbial defense of the gut.
Research as shown that certain probiotic microbes have been
identified that influence the brain, via the extensive gut enervation (see
article on
Psychobiotics).
Many of the organisms are in our concentrated products at levels that allow
the psychobiotic effect. These include MSE Natural Defense, MSE Natural
Defense Soluble, Liquid Rescue, and MSE Microbial Paste.
MSE Calm Defense also contains an
additional natural ingredient that has been shown to induce calm in stressed
animals. The combination is highly effective. However, regular use may cause
lethargy. Switch between MSE Natural Defense or Natural Defense Soluble and
MSE Calm Defense for preventive use before anticipated stresses. Dogs that
are always hyperactive may need daily doses to dial back their excitability.
MSE Calm Defense can be added o either canned or dry food
without clumping.
MSE Calm Defense can be
safely frozen. Freezing prolongs microbe viability. However, repeated
thawing and refreezing is not recommended. MSE Calml Defense may be

Feeding Instructions:
MSE Calm Defense is more effective in stressed animals. Dose should be
started at a fraction of a teaspoon and gradually increased until pet is
calmed, but not sedated. Individual dose will vary with degree of anxiety.
It takes about two weeks for microbial benefits, if the pet is not on either
Natural Defense or Natural Defense Soluble. The non-microbial ingredient
starts to work with 24 hours, which is another reason to give before
anticipated stresses.
May be divided between meals for a more continuous benefit.
Best results if kept sealed and refrigerated.
